Freewalker Overview

Freewalker is a unique program combining volunteerism with adventure and fun in South Africa. South Africa is an incredibly diverse country in culture, language, topography and needs. Our volunteers are offered an ever increasing array of projects to choose from that are dedicated to the upliftment of this country’s people and wildlife.  Check out our “projects” section to see a few of the volunteer programs that participants can be involved in and come away from feeling enriched and having “made a difference.”

Fitting your every needs and aspirations, from humanitarian work to wildlife conservation, Freewalker will personally design a program that is most suitable for you. The Freewalker team is there for constant support and guidance to assure the entire experience will be rewarding.

And on the weekends…. We are there to show you South Africa at its finest! Our volunteers experience South Africa with us, rather than as tourists observing sites and culture from the outside. In the malaria free Port Elizabeth area, where Freewalker is based, there are seven different biomes to explore!   Take a look at our “adventure section” to see a few of the many, many opportunities for fun in the South African sun. Whether it’s working with and coaching children at schools, volunteering with wildlife reserves or getting involved in local clinics; whether you have adventured on the pristine beaches, the mountains or the bush, the Freewalker goal is that you come away from South Africa feeling that your life perspective has been enhanced and all your experiences and new friendships are memorable!

Free Walker Project Management and Qualified Tour Guides

Murray Luscombe is a sixth generation South African from the farming community near Graaff-Reinet. His childhood experiences inspired him to a lifestyle of work/adventure/fun. Murray has worked in the guided tour industry for over two years and decided to put his business education to good use and dedicate himself to his own Volunteer Working-Holiday South African Experience. He is also passionate about inspiring other people to experience the joys of volunteerism. Murray has a love for, and intimate knowledge of South Africa and a deep desire to improve conditions in a land that has many, many needs. He is always scouting out new adventures and unique experiences for his guests. He wants you to experience his country as only a South African can really show it to you! Each guest is unique and Murray puts a top priority on understanding what an individual is hoping to gain from their experience and then going the extra mile to make sure that is fulfilled.

Jordana Meyer is an American farm girl who was introduced to South Africa while working on her Master’s Degree in behavioral endocrinology, specializing in elephants and rhinos. For any volunteers who are especially interested in South African wildlife she is a guide extraordinaire! She has spent several years living in the bush during her research and is very experienced in training volunteers from many countries during her work with the Smithsonian, George Mason University and Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo.  Jordana has always believed in leaving the world a better place than how one finds it, and she was happy to join Murray at Freewalker as one way to further that aim, as well as to help others with similar goals. Jordana’s special passion is to bring
her extensive knowledge of conservation into the classrooms and inspire a generation of
South African children to share her love of their country’s wealth of wildlife.
