Royal Cape Country Club

The Royal Cape is over 100 years old is the oldest golf club in South Africa, it’s hosted the SA Open ten times.

The course is flat but the fairways are narrow and surrounded by tree lines despite it being flat the coastal conditions almost creates a windy course all year round and a tough challenge, the bunkers are big and a challenge and the numerous water hazards don’t make it any easier. Its arguably South Africa’s most famous course because of its History.

Steenberg

Steenberg

Steenberg located in Cape Town is a stunning place to enjoy golf, food and wine of the greatest quality. Steenberg’s featured holes are the 7th and 14th, the 7th has an island type green with sand surrounding it and in the background is the Devils peak mountain which is easily a beautiful distraction. The 14th hole boasts the single biggest green in South Africa which is surrounded by bunkers, if you make the green there is no guarantee of par with the sure mass of the green and its undulating greens.

Pearl Valley

Pearl Valley was the vision of the famous Jack Nicklaus, upon opening in 2005 it was rated the best new golf course by Golf Digest. It’s been ranked in the top 10 in the country since 2006 right up until 2015.Its hosted the SA open in 2007,2008 and 2009. The course has two signature holes the 4th and the 13th which are famous in the South African golf community. The course is a test of skill and mind but stunning at the same time.

De Zalze

De Zalze

De Zalze played host to the biggest South African Championships in 2006 and has hosted the World Amateur Team championships. Its main challenges on the course come in water features on the toughest holes on the course. The Blaauwkippen river runs through course and comes in to play more often than not causing skilful shots to be played. De Zalze is a wonderful golfing experience for the amateur player. Guests can experience winetasting, picturesque accommodation and dining of the highest quality.

Arabella

Arabella

The 18th hole at Arabella is rated the best finishing hole in South Africa. The Golf course runs along the Bot River Lagoon with stunning views of manicured grass and botanical creations making Arabella neat and creating an amazing style to the course. Famous celebrities are a regular occurrence the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Ernie Els and Gary Player have all played Arabella. Arabella is a world class experience and deserves its top 10 ranking.

Fancourt Outeniqua

Fancourt Outeniqua

Fancourt Outeniqua also part of the “Fancourt” experience is ranked number 6 in the country so literally when you stay at Fancourt Golf estate you can play the 1st, 6th and 16th ranked courses in South Africa. Fancourt Outeniqua is the more amateur friendly golf course and easiest of the 3 golf courses. It has 11 holes that have water so it does have its challenges though.

Fancourt Montagu

Fancourt Montagu also part of the “Fancourt” experience is ranked number 6 in the country so literally when you stay at Fancourt Golf estate you can play the 1st, 6th and 16th ranked courses in South Africa. The Montagu is a tree-lined course which is well conditioned covering three different types of terrain. Another Gary Player signature splendour.

Pinnacle Point

Pinnacle Point

Darren Clarke who worked on the design of the course with Peter Matkovich said: “it’s the best course on the planet” well I’m sure Darren was a little bias but Pinnacle Point is breathtaking, with 7 of the courses holes that line the rock cliffs of the Indian Ocean and it may be beautiful but in the wind they are no easy task. Pinnacle Point is a masterpiece of Golf course design so get ready to experience it.

Fancourt Links

Fancourt Links

The Fancourt Links is rated the number 1 golf course in the country currently by Golf Digest and number 43 in the World by Golf Digest USA. The Links has hosted famous tournaments including the SA Open, the Volvo Masters and the Presidents cup. The Links is a great golfing challenge as is any links course would be but the Fancourt Links is particularly tough with its long rough and tight fairways, it’s a true challenge and fantastic golfing experience. Let’s hope the wind stays down for this one…

Ranked best new Golf course in South Africa in 2001 just a few months after it opened. Pezula has been rated a 5 star Golf experience every year since 2005 by Golf Digest. Its stunning ocean views and scenery is like you are literally playing out your dream golf course only written about in mythic old golf tales.

St Francis Links

St Francis Links

It’s rated in the Top 10 South African Golf courses in 2016 and best new course in 2007 respectively by Golf Digest. The Links experience has world class practice facilities, a par 3 course setup within the normal 18 hole golf course. Jack Nicklaus was caught saying “it’s the best looking course he’s ever made not the best course I’ve ever made or else that will make some 200 people very upset.”
