Freewalker took a two week expedition up the Wild Coast to explore some hidden gems on this rural stretch of coast. The coastlines are pristine and some barely touched with rugged cliffs and waterfalls everywhere, offering unlimited exploring opportunities. The first stop on the expedition was Chintsa on the Jikeleza Route. This remote, tropical beach and bush destination offers long stretches on beach, rivers and rolling hills to discover, as well as brewery’s, fun eating options and obviously adventure activities. From Chintsa we continue to Morgan bay for unreal sunsets off the cliffs above the pounding ocean, wildlife on the foothills meeting the ocean and quiet sandy rivers to meander up. The next destination took us all the way to Coffee Bay, a definite must stop if you heading up this way, around Coffee Bay there are other village style accommodation options, and all well worth the effort in getting there. We hiked the coastlines finding beaches and caves, and also visiting the majestic Hole-In-The-Wall rock in the ocean, followed by some local seafood delights and gin and tonics for sunsets, cant go wrong here. The Umngangazi River near Port St. Johns was our next stop, featuring a landing strip some 250 m up on a mountain plateau, looking over the Umzimvubu River below. Other adventure options there was the gap hike to the blow hole and a village stroll, including cattle on the beach and wild banana plantations scattered all over the coast. The Magwa Falls had been on our list for ages and it did not fail to impress, our little local tour guides made sure we got the best and closest views of this deep gorge and waterfall. The incredible Oribi Gorge awed us into complete silence with the viewpoints and natural beauty. Adventure options on offer here was the highest gorge swing in the world, abseiling down the waterfall, hikes to the bottom of the gorge, suspension bridges and many many impressive view points to find and appreciate. Our final stop on this expedition were the Drakensberg Mountains for a long hike up to the highest pub in Africa for a well deserved beer and lunch, before rolling down again. endless views from the top of the mountain pass and unreal greenery and wildlife around. we highly recommend doing a trip along the Wild Coast and Transkei with us, iys one the realest places to visit in South Africa. We do have a Wild Coast tailor-made meander option, so send us your enquiry to firstname.lastname@example.org today to see what ideal holiday we can create for you.
