What is Miemies?
Miemies offers a very unique African dining experience that combines culture exchange opportunities, with great traditional foods and drinks. Miemie began cooking 35 years ago and has resulted in a passion to create good food and make people happy. This experience is now offered to Travellers visiting Graaff-Reinet, looking for something different to do and enjoy some local culture, food, drinks and memories. Miemies Cultural Exchange Dinner was created to show you a different side of South Africa and give you the chance to experience the ways of a new culture, the friendly one, the colourful one, the hospitable one, The South African Culture.
How was Miemies started?
Miemies was established in July 2011 through Freewalker Community Development Projects. The idea was to create a sustainable business opportunity for The Lomberg Family, who desperately needed an extra income. So plans got under way and everyone got involved to build the structure, get the necessary cooking utensils, print and disperse the advertising ideas and get people to join us in this cultural exchange dinner.
Where is Miemies and who are we visiting?
The humble, hospitable family home of the Lomberg’s is nestled at the foot of the mountains surrounding Graaff-Reinet in a township settlement, Kroonvale. Miemie and Richard Lomberg welcome you into their beautiful home and make sure that you leave well satisfied and, with memories to last forever.
Miemie and Richard have lived and worked on James and Carina Luscombe’s farm where their parents and grandparents passed on incredible recipes, which Miemie is sharing with you today. Miemie has more than 35 years experience making food for other people, and now she has retired from the Guest house scene and is cooking up some incredible meals for you.
From the 14 seater home made table and wooden benches, the view is pretty impressive with Spandau’s Kop and The Valley of Desolation silhouetted in the background, PLEASE remember to bring your camera.
