A Dining Experience with a Difference
GRAAFF-REINET — On Tuesday evening last week, members of the public and local guesthouses were introduced to the Miemies’ cultural exchange dinner experience at Miemies Kitchen. Nestled at the foot of the mountains at 22 Sunflower Street in Kroonvale, Miemies Kitchen offers a very unique African dining experience that combines culture exchange opportunities, with great traditional foods and drinks. The whole idea behind this cultural exchange dining experience, stemmed from Miemies’ passion to create food and make people happy. Miemies was created to allow foreigners and locals the chance to visit an African family home and indulge in traditionalpotjiekos, samp/pap or rice with fresh, warm roosterbrood, while sipping on some good ice cold local drinks or whatever you prefer. Meals are ended with a healthy helping of South Africa’s finest – Malva pudding served with custard and strong coffee. If you are looking for something different to do, enjoy some local culture, good food, drinks and make memories at Miemies. Experience a different side of South Africa and enjoy a new culture, a friendly one, a colourful one, a hospitable one, the South African Culture.
WHO ARE YOU VISITING?
Miemie and Richard Lomberg welcome you into their beautiful home and make sure that you leave well satisfied and, with memories to last forever. Miemie and Richard have lived and worked on James and Carina Luscombe’s farm where their parents and grandparents passed on incredible recipes, which Miemie is sharing with customers today. Miemie has more than 35 years experience making food for other people, and now she has retired from the Guest house scene and is cooking up some incredible meals. From the 14 seater home made table and benches, the view is pretty impressive with Spandau’s Kop and the Valley of Desolation silhouetted in the background.
MAKING A BOOKING
This particular style of dining relies on fire and coals and takes time and effort to get the pot to perfection, so please make advance bookings with a four-hour notice time before arriving. Bookings can be made by calling Kingfisher Guest house at 049 892 2657 or email: langfontein@intekom.co.za.
Miemies was established in July through Freewalker Community Development Projects to create a sustainable business opportunity for the Lomberg family.
