Freewalker House: School & Penguin Rehab Accommodation
Freewalker House
Freewalker offers a “home away from home” for their volunteers. The Freewalker House is located in Richmond Hill, the historical centre of Port Elizabeth, South Africa and therefore accessible to everything the city has to offer. This is a very spacious, beautifully restored house from the early 1900s, full of warmth and atmosphere. Every visitor passing through the Freewalker House has commented on the ample space, giving it a big, old farm house vibe in the middle of town. The house sleeps 10 Volunteers and includes: four bedrooms, three bathrooms, large fully equipped kitchen, entertaining area with indoor braai and bar, living room and dining room, library/computer room (free Wi-Fi internet), large private garden, massive swimming pool with outside cabana, covered outdoor eating area, laundry facilities, full perimeter security and alarm system. The house has a large back garden with plenty of grass space with hammocks, swing chairs, loungers, and comfy chill areas. This House provides plenty of space for volunteers to relax after a hard days work. (The Freewalker bar “The Baboon Lagoon” and Pool Cabana are great to relax and enjoy some good socializing)

Location and Surrounding Attractions
The ‘Freewalker House’ is perfectly situated in the centre of Port Elizabeth and within walking distance from cultural restaurants, tennis courts, athletics track and field, movie house, convenience, grocery, and clothing stores. Also around the corner, volunteers can find anything they are looking for on a trip away from home, being: Laundromats, Chemist and Doctors, African shops, convenience stores, beauty and hair salons, fast and healthy food stores and many more. The amazing beaches Port Elizabeth has to offer are within a 5 minute drive, including the beach front entertainment scene which has numerous cocktail bars overlooking the Bay. Lively pubs and bars, coffee cafes, eating, dancing, sea food, casino, live entertainment are also to be found down the at the beach front.
Volunteers will never be bored while experiencing vibrant South Africa.
Volunteer Meals
Volunteers take it in turns to prepare meals for the group in a beautiful farm style, fully equipped family kitchen. Your choice of meal is up to you. All food is provided; from breads, cereals, cheeses, meats, pastas, fruits & veg, and more. Coffee and tea is available at all times.
Wildlife Conservation Program Accommodation
Imagine waking in the morning to rhino grazing in your front yard or giraffe peeping into your top deck…
On the KKGP, volunteers will be living in amongst the wildlife in beautiful thatched chalets, two levels, bathroom with shower, and fully equipped for self-catering and braai (BB-Q) area OR a fully equipped safari tent with toilet/shower and running water…for the full African experience. The chalets and tents are easily accessible to the reception and restaurant where lunch will be served daily.
On the EGF, volunteers will stay in a cottage with five beds, solar lights, wood-fired boilers for hot water, braai facilities and gas burners. It will have more of a rustic feel to it than KKGP, being further out of town in the African Bush. The main homestead is a short stroll away to the swimming pool. Always completely surrounded by wildlife.
Both reserves offer tented safari camps that will be used throughout your stay!
Volunteer Meals
Your choice of meal is up to you. Breakfast and dinner will be self-prepped in the chalets, while a hot lunch will be served daily at the restaurant. KKGP restaurant is fully functional and is open to the volunteers from 8:00-17:00 daily. All food is provided; from breads, cereals, cheeses, meats, pastas, fruits & vegetables, traditional meals and more. Volunteers take it in turns to prepare meals for the group. Coffee and tea is available at all times.
